MAXXItwopercent is a competition being held by the Inter-Regional Superintendency for Public Works of Lazio, Abruzzo
and Sardinia, in collaboration with the PARC General Directorate for the Quality and Conservation of the Contemporary Landscape, Architecture and Art. Open to young artists, the competition calls for the design of two works of art for the MAXXI National
Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome. The total prize money available for the competition is 1,130,000.00 Euro.
The competition makes reference to Italian Law n.717 from 1949, known as the “2% Law”, according to which State Governing
Bodies and Public Entities who build or rebuild public buildings (in the event of damages caused by the Second World War)
must set aside a quota of no less than 2% of the cost of construction for beautification works and works of art (art. 1, comma 1).
The MAXXI, the large public art and architecture museum designed by Zaha Hadid includes the design of two new works of visual
art, one of which will be located in the main atrium, the other outside the building.
